Midwood Rezoning
On April 5, 2006, the City Council approved the rezoning of approximately 80 blocks in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood. The Department of City Planning describes the area as “predominantly residential and is generally bounded by Avenue H on the north, Ocean Avenue on the east, Avenue P and Kings Highway on the south and Coney Island Avenue on the west.” The rezoning seeks to preserve the character of the neighborhood by requiring new development to fit in with the existing buildings. In selected wide streets, the proposal will allow for higher density residential development. Prior to the City Council’s action, the Community Board and Borough President approved the proposal with modifications.
