Jet Blue Terminal Designed with Security Top Priority

The new Jet Blue Terminal at JFK Airport is one of the first airport terminals to have been designed and built post September 11th. The terminal boasts a 340-foot wide security checkpoint with 20 lanes for travelers. While security was the top focus for designers, subtle touches have been added to enhance the travelers experience during the security checkpoints, including more benches to regather luggage and specialized tile in areas where passengers are required to take off their shoes. The intent is to move passengers through security in 10 minutes or less and for passengers not to have to experience the bulk of security equipment that has been introduced in airports since September 11th.

Record Year For Queens AirTrain Rail Link To Kennedy Airport

The Port Authority has announced that its three major airports, as well as its AirTrain rail link to the Kennedy Airport, are having above-average years. 3.5 million riders have taken the AirTrain to Kennedy airport so far this year. Port Authority spokespeople claim that the AirTrain, which opened in 2003, is exceeding expectations.

The Port Authority is seeking proposals for new uses for Eero Saarinen�s TWA terminal at Kennedy International Airport. The Authority does not intend the terminal to be used for aviation purposes but rather as an amenity to travelers who will use JetBlue�s adjacent new terminal which is currently under construction. The Municipal Art Society, who have led the fight to protect the historic structure, believe that issuing a request for proposals is an �extremely flawed� approach and favor keeping the Saarinen building in aviation use.
