Stakeholders Voice Concerns Over Kingsbridge Armory
BRONX COMMUNITY DISTRICT 07
During a Community Board hearing on the Kingsbridge Armory redevelopment project, several stakeholders including supermarket employees, living wage advocates, construction workers and representatives from the Related Companies expressed their concerns. Employees from Morton Williams supermarket urged the Community Board to reject part of the development plan which would place a competing supermarket across from their establishment. The Kingsbridge Armory Redevelopment Alliance advocated that the development plan include a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) requiring a living wage for any new jobs that are created while the Related Companies’ lawyer stated that a wage requirement would threaten the project. Construction workers pushed for the plan’s approval and testified that the new construction jobs would provide sufficient income for workers. In accordance with the City’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP), the Community Board must vote on the plan by July 14th.
