Concern over whether the Gowanus Canal will be able to spur new development in the future, because of its new Superfund status, is being raised. While the Environmental Protection Agency maintains that the designation will enhance the area, developers like Dolly Williams, former City Planning Commission member, hold different views. Williams points to the decision by the Toll Brothers and another unnamed developer to walk away from their proposed projects as a result of last week's Superfund announcement.
