Bricktown Centre
The South Shore of Staten Island is growing into an attractive retail location, and Bricktown Centre made a major footprint in the area with a 400,000 square foot retail center, featuring a number of large national chain stores. The site had been the borough's largest vacant city-owned parcel, and had been undeveloped woodland. Environmental concerns reduced the original plan from 67 to 43 acres.

Target, the latest big-box retailer to hit Staten Island, will open the doors of its Charleston store to the public tomorrow in the newly minted Bricktown Centre.
Councilmen Have Problems With Bloomberg's Budget

Councilman Andrew Lanza, in response to Mayor Bloomberg's budget, has said that he will push for money to be allocated to a school at the new Bricktown retail complex. Lanza has a signed commitment from Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff to set aside 16 acres for the Department of Education and vows to push for at least $25 million to begin work on the school.
